Keloid Scars

Overview

Keloids are raised scars that extend beyond the original boundaries of an injury.
They occur when the body produces excessive collagen during the wound-healing process.

They may develop following surgery, acne, piercings, trauma or other skin injuries.
Keloids can be firm, itchy, uncomfortable or cosmetically bothersome.

Keloids are different from hypertrophic scars, which remain within the original wound boundaries.

Treatment Options

Intralesional Steroid Treatment

Medication injected directly into the scar can help reduce excessive collagen production and soften raised scar tissue.

Yellow Laser

Yellow laser technology may help reduce redness and vascular activity within selected scars.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

In carefully selected scars, controlled tissue remodelling may help improve thickness and texture.

Combination Treatment

Keloids often respond best to a combination of treatments rather than a single procedure.

Our Approach

Keloids have a tendency to recur, so treatment is usually aimed at flattening, softening and reducing symptoms rather than completely removing the scar.

Early assessment and treatment may help prevent further progression.
